A Beautiful Day for Fall Frenzy!
On a beautiful Saturday in Harlem, poet-athletes from public schools across NYC joined ASNY staff and volunteers for our annual Fall Frenzy!
Over 275 young people from Upper Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx joined us at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park in Harlem on Saturday, November 5th for our mid-season celebration of soccer and poetry performances.
Poet-athletes, families, and coaches filled the fields that sunny morning, joining us from Brooklyn’s PS 375 and PS 249, The Bronx’s PS 66, and Upper Manhattan’s PS 98, PS 153, PS 173, PSMS 161, and Mott Hall Middle School.
Director of Writing Programs Chris Lantigua kicked off the day with our exciting agenda and, of course, a rallying SCORES cheer! While half of our wonderful volunteer referees and field marshalls joined our program staff on the field, the remaining volunteer crew joined Lantigua on the bleachers to work on their social justice poems.
That sunny Saturday wrapped up with a reflection on our soccer games, our poetry projects, and gathering together as a community once again before we gave a huge thanks to our incredible volunteers and headed out for the day!
