The Triumphant Return of Fall Frenzy!
After two long years, our favorite celebration of #fallSCORES is back — Fall Frenzy has returned to America SCORES New York!
Over 200 young people from Upper Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx joined us at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park in Harlem on Saturday, November 6th for our mid-season celebration of soccer and poetry performances.
Poet-athletes, families, and coaches filled the bleachers bright and early at 9am, joining us from Brooklyn’s PS 375 and PS 139, The Bronx’s PS 66, and Upper Manhattan’s PS 98, PS 125, PS 153, Dos Puentes Elementary, Mott Hall Middle School, and PSMS 161.
Director of Soccer Programs Katie Carroll and Director of Writing Programs Chris Lantigua kicked off the day with the day’s exciting agenda and, of course, a rallying SCORES cheer! While half of our wonderful volunteer referees and field marshalls joined Carroll and program staff on the field, the remaining volunteer crew joined Lantigua on the bleachers to work on their social justice poems inspired by Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman.
That sunny Saturday wrapped up with a reflection on our soccer games, our poetry projects, and gathering together as a community once again before we gave a huge thanks to our incredible volunteers and headed out for the day!
