JAMBOREE! 2017

Every year, America SCORES New York hosts an end-of-year soccer tournament that brings together all of our teams, students, and schools in a jam-packed day filled with soccer and fun!

This year, our tournament was held at Columbia University's incredible Baker Athletic Complex, allowing our poet-athletes the opportunity to play soccer on a professional field, and experience one aspect of Columbia's outstanding academic and athletic resources.

The day began early, at 9am, when our poet-athletes gathered on the field in their colorful jerseys and prepared to compete for the 2017 ASNY Jamboree title! The elementary and middle schools competed in separate divisions, but all teams were hopeful that they would be the ones to bring one of the shiny soccer trophies back to their school.

When teams weren't competing on the field, they were visiting the Service-Learning Scavenger Hunt station, where poet-athletes presented poster boards of their service-learning projects, and learned about the service projects other teams had undertaken during the spring season.

After a delicious lunch, generously supplied by our very own Coach David (from his restaurant), our poet-athletes competed in the playoffs. We ended the day with a trophy presentation and a pie in the face for our program director, Zach.

JAMBOREE! 2017 couldn't have been a bigger success! Special thanks to all our poet-athletes and their families for making the event so special, and for all their hard work over the past year. Thanks also to all of the incredible volunteers who leant us their time on a Saturday; the event wouldn't have been the same without you! We're excited to see everyone back at summer camp in July!
