ASNY Takes Boston!
What a busy week it's been at America SCORES New York! Our biggest Poetry SLAM ever too place back in November, providing our incredible poet-athletes with the opportunity to express themselves through words and writing. The standout poets from this event were awarded the Shine! Award, recognizing their unique ability to write and recite incredible poems. This year, ASNY was given the opportunity to join Boston SCORES for their third annual Poets' Banquet!
We started our day at 5am, boarding a bus to Boston. After catching some extra sleep, students reviewed their poems with their coaches (like poet-athlete Azmia and Coach Chloe!), and Program Director Zach Gomes rallied the students, giving them the opportunity to practice their poems in front of their NY peers. We arrived at the Banquet eager and prepared, and the poet-athletes from NY and Boston shared their best poems in front of family, friends, and staff from both cities.

After the Poets' Banquet, the ASNY poet-athletes had the chance to explore the exciting city of Boston. They loved the smaller, calmer vibe that Boston had to offer, and they even got to experience the T-train! We explored the Museum of Fine Arts where the NY poet-athletes were eager to experience the mummy exhibit and the Lunar New Year Celebration. We, of course, couldn't pass on any opportunity to play soccer, so a handful of students grabbed a ball and played with poet-athletes from other NY schools in a park behind the museum. Before we boarded a bus back to New York, we grabbed some pizza, family style, and enjoyed the rest of our time in Boston as a strong America SCORES family!
