AMERICA SCORES NEW YORK TO HOST VIRTUAL FUNDRAISING EVENT TO CONTINUE SOCIAL JUSTICE PROGRAMMING IN NEW YORK CITY

NEW YORK, N.Y. - On Thursday, July 9, America SCORES New York will be virtually hosting “An Evening with America SCORES New York” from 8:00 - 9:15 p.m. to explore the intersection of youth development, social justice, and the role of America SCORES New York.
“An Evening with America SCORES New York” will bring together a community of youth leaders, sport for social change innovators, as well as soccer and poetry fans across New York City, while raising vital funds for America SCORES New York programming. Because of their focus on social justice youth development and their partnership with communities throughout Upper Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, America SCORES New York is uniquely positioned to continue the conversation surrounding racial equity with their supporters. Throughout the spring, America SCORES New York has shifted their program into a virtual setting, reaching their poet-athletes in new ways -- daily Instagram Live sessions where their young people were kicking a ball in their homes instead of on the fields and writing poetry in their bedrooms instead of the classroom. As they plan for their first virtual summer program and begin to look beyond what September's school year may bring, they need your support now more than ever to ensure that their poet-athletes remain safe, supported, connected, and hopeful.
The event will be hosted by Fox 5 Sports Anchor, Tina Cervasio, who has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the world of soccer. During the 75-minute virtual show, Cervasio will be joined by special guests in a program about the future of social justice in sports, as well as young poet-athletes who will share some of their work they’ve created through America SCORES New York’s program.

Now more than ever, the voices of our young people must be heard and their calls for a more just world must be highlighted. We have worked throughout the COVID crisis to give them a safe space, albeit virtually, to express those feelings of frustration, of confusion, and of hope, and it is on us all to elevate our youth as they step into the forefront as future leaders of our communities."
America SCORES New York serves as a driving force in promoting fair play, self-expression, commitment, and teamwork for youth in under-resourced communities in New York City. They partner with under-resourced communities by building a strong social-emotional learning (“SEL”) foundation and taking that a step further by promoting social justice alongside their young people. By bringing the community together through a unique combination of soccer, literacy, and service-learning, 100% of their youth are stronger, smarter, happier, and prepared to make a difference in their community.
