ASNY appoints new Executive Director John Riordan
America SCORES New York is pleased to announce that after conducting a full search process, the Board of Directors has appointed John Riordan as the organization’s Executive Director.
Mr. Riordan has been serving as the Interim Executive Director since the summer, and prior to that has had a long tenure with the organization as the Director of Development.
"I have spent eight life-changing years at America SCORES New York, and am proud to take on this leadership role as we execute on our mission to advocate for our Poet-Athletes," Riordan said.
"The organization is at a pivotal moment with both our 25th anniversary and the World Cup coming in 2026, and I look forward to leveraging these momentous events to continue to expand our presence and impact across the city.”
"I am inspired every day by what our Poet-Athletes can achieve when they are given the opportunity to express themselves on the soccer field and through their creative writing.”
New York's chapter is one of the older affiliates in the 13-city SCORES network across North America where the mission is to inspire young people to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world.
Adam Freeman, Board Chair, said, “The Board of Directors has been extremely impressed by John’s leadership and the progress he has spearheaded at America SCORES New York over the past six months. We are excited to have John take on the Executive Director role and lead this organization as we continue to build for the future.”
Network Executive Director, Icy Jones, welcomed the move, saying: "SCORES has been delivering community change for youth across North America for more than 30 years. We are on the precipice of another chapter of incredible growth and impact in that lasting legacy. New York is one of the cities at the vanguard of that effort and I am confident that John Riordan is the right man to shepherd America SCORES New York into that bright future. John is not just a true believer, he's a doer, and he'll get the job done."
