Success for Société Générale & Deloitte at Winter Cup 2019!
The players of Société Générale celebrate their Winter Cup 2019 victory with the poet-athletes of PS 98.
On Saturday, we held our annual Winter Cup at a new location -- the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium at Columbia University! Fourteen corporate teams came together for our biggest Winter Cup yet to compete for the coveted first place trophies
(A special thank you to our incredible photographers Luis Fonseca and Kim Kirnan! Check out the rest of their great pictures - team photos, action photos and more)
The morning began with our Division 1 teams, who were eager to get on the fields! The roster consisted of Blackstone, Bloomberg, FactSet, KraneShares, Macquarie, Refinitiv, Société Générale, and Tradeweb!
Each team played at least four games, with Société Générale, KraneShares, Refinitiv, and Blackstone advancing to the semi-finals.
The elimination of Blackstone and KraneShares left Refinitv to face the Winter Cup reigning champion Société Générale.
For the final's pre-game ceremony, the poet-athletes of PS 98 performed their Poetry SLAM group poems to widespread acclaim, setting the scene nicely for an exciting showdown.
Both teams left it all on the field and, in a tense penalty shoot-out, Société Générale retained their crown as Winter Cup Division 1 champions!
Our Division 2 games proved to be just as thrilling, with six teams vying for the top spot. Citi, CPC, Deloitte, Grant Thornton, HBO, along with our high school team, Kicking it Forward, each played at least four games, leaving HBO and Deloitte to compete for the title of Division 2 Champion.
Deloitte took home the cup, beating HBO on a final score of 2-1.
Our largest Winter Cup yet would not have happened if not for the incredible staff and volunteers who acted as referees, photographers, ran the registration tables, and ensured that our 200 players had food and water throughout the day.
A special thank you to PS 98, whose presence added such a special tone to the day and allowed our corporate athletes to see America SCORES New York in action!
Finally, a massive thank you to our sponsors who set incredible examples of fair play for our PS 98 poet-athletes and raised almost $30,000 for our program. We can't wait to see you for SCORES Cup in Summer 2019!
