Job Summary:
ASNY is seeking a dedicated and passionate Program Director to oversee and support all aspects of our after-school program. The Program Director will work closely with our students, coaches, school, local communities and the Executive Director to ensure the successful delivery of the America SCORES curriculum. This role is an essential part of our team, focused on helping young people develop their physical, academic, and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Implementation:
Work with the Executive Director to ensure the effective implementation of the America SCORES curriculum, during a 10-12 week fall and spring season, supplemented by part-time winter programming and summer programming.
Collaborate with coaches, teachers, families and other members of the ASNY community to provide support and resources for the soccer, poetry, and service learning components of the program
Assist in planning and organizing program events, such as tournaments, poetry slams, and community service projects
2. Program Logistics and Reporting:
Oversee the management of programming needs, including the process for distribution and collection of program supplies/equipment and equipment purchasing
Review end-of-season data and surveys, updating curricula or processes to the fit the needs of the ASNY community
Oversee the planning and implementation of all program events, including Fall Frenzy, Poetry SLAM, Jamboree, and supporting weekly gameday logistics
Ensure the reporting of results to stakeholders (supporters and the community-at-large) through grant reports, program outcomes reports, newsletters, etc.
Manage the yearly program calendar, including the scheduling of weekly gamedays, community events and the Poetry SLAM
Manage a transportation vendor responsible for gamedays and community events
3. Community Engagement:
Conduct program site visits for effective program delivery and implementation
Collaborate with the Executive Director on developing Program Budgets and the development of strategic goals to drive program growth
Build strong relationships with local community organizations and agencies to assure program quality and financial sustainability
4. Stakeholder Management:
Be the face of program delivery in all New York City Public Schools, including managing and growing relationships directly with school leaders and administration, parents and families and school staff
Build strong relationships with all key school stakeholders, enhancing the ability for high-quality program delivery
Ensure parents and families see ASNY as a welcoming, inclusive, supportive and safe environment for their young people
5. Staff Management, Training and Development:
Lead all aspects of pre-season and mid-season coach training, ensuring that all coaches and teachers are fully supported and trained to deliver the SCORES program
Oversee the process for hiring, on-boarding, training, professional development, and time reporting/payroll of all part-time coordinators, interns, AmeriCorps members, coaches, and program contractors
Ensure that coaches and teachers feel fully supported by ASNY and have channels to provide program feedback on improving program delivery in their school
Maintain a commitment to continuing professional development on a personal level in order to provide the ASNY community with the latest evidence driven youth development methods/ideas.
6. Supervision and Team Collaboration:
Contribute to the ASNY team and overall operations, actively participating in goal-setting, initiatives, events, and day-to-day functioning with a team-centered approach
Be open to giving and receiving constructive feedback and fulfilling necessary roles as needed
Supervise all ASNY program staff, including conducting weekly program staff meetings, one-on-one supervision, goal-setting, managing conflict resolution, work task assignments, schedules, timesheets, and PTO requests.
7. Curriculum and Program Model Oversight:
Oversee all aspects of SCORES’ Program Model and Curriculum to ensure evidence-based program design and implementation in line with the SCORES mission, values, and core program elements.
Acknowledge community assets and address community needs in a manner consistent with best practices
8. Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned related to the success of the organization’s mission, including but not limited to supporting fundraising activities and events, assisting with the creation of a long-term ASNY growth strategy, and supporting telling the story of ASNY story through press releases and social media
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Education, Youth Development, Social Work, etc.) or equivalent experience
Previous experience working with youth in an educational or community setting
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
Prior youth development experience within soccer and/or poetry
Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills
Flexible and adaptable to work in a variety of settings
Effective in multi-cultural and cross-cultural settings and understanding of individuals of all backgrounds
A strong belief in the mission and values of America SCORES and a shared passion for improving the lives of America’s youth through soccer and education
Additional Qualifications:
Proven experience in program management, including supervision of staff, goal-setting, and conflict resolution
Familiarity with hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development processes
Demonstrated ability to oversee program curricula and ensure adherence to evidence-based program design
Experience with program logistics, including the procurement and distribution of supplies and equipment
Proficiency in data analysis and the ability to use data for curriculum improvement
Event planning and implementation skills, especially related to youth-focused events
Strong reporting skills to effectively communicate program results to stakeholders
Knowledge of budget development and experience in setting strategic program goals
Ability to build and maintain relationships with community organizations and agencies
Willingness to adapt and fulfill various roles as needed within the organization
Fluency in Spanish a plus
