Feeling fine at Fall Frenzy 2017!
Bus loads of poet-athletes traveled up from Brooklyn and down from Inwood and Washington Heights to join their fellow America SCORES New York kids at Jacob Schiff Park in West Harlem on Friday.
And what a day it was!
10 of our partner schools sent 300 elementary schoolers to take part in soccer games, poetry performances and a literacy project that will be installed at next month's Poetry SLAM! which will be hosted at the A. Philip Randolph High School on West 135th St.
The sun shone throughout just over two hours of exciting games and brilliant poetry with the boys playing on the Jacob Schiff field over the course of the first hour before the girls rotated from their poetry hour to swap with the boys.
Inwood's PS 98 joined the Heights crews from PS 4, PS 173 and Dos Puentes and Brooklyn's PS 249 while the four sets of teams with the least distance to travel were PS 125, PS 153, PS 161 and PS 192.
Volunteers from Thomson Reuters kept things ticking along and we were also joined by a very special guest, Miss Nigeria USA, Idara Inokon, who was extremely popular with the teams!
See our Facebook Fall Frenzy photo album here for more great images. Special thanks to Thomson Reuters volunteer Noel Gesner for providing these amazing shots!
Meanwhile, artist Courtney Buckland volunteered her talents for the day by helping us put together a poetry / art installation which will be displayed at Poetry SLAM! next month.
Everywhere, kids, parents, and others embraced the fun atmosphere. From the poet-athletes, to the alumni who helped, to the volunteers, to the staff, and all the other amazing people who made it such a colorful afternoon, everyone was a major part contributory part to New York's biggest ever Fall Frenzy 2017!
