Here's to a sensational #summerSCORES!
What a busy summer it's been for our poet-athletes! Even though our after-school season is out of session until September 23rd, #summerSCORES has been in full swing, giving our young people a variety of exciting opportunities! Read below to find out what we've been up to:
Celebrating the World Cup with Volkswagen
Thanks to the inspiring energy and success of our US Women's National Team, ASNY has had plenty of opportunities to celebrate this summer. We hosted a US v Sweden Watch Party + Networking event on June 20th where almost 100 of our dedicated supporters joined us at American Whiskey to root on our incredible team and witness the debut of the first America SCORES national commercial!
The good times didn't end there! After the USWNT victory, two of our poet-athletes, Sandy and Edith, joined Program Coordinator Delmy Del Cid on the Volkswagen float during the Ticker Tape parade! Our #summerSCORES poet-athletes even had the chance to cheer on their friends and lead the crowds in an "America SCORES" chant! The fun hasn't finished -- some of our poet-athletes will have the chance to join the US Men's National team during their game against Mexico on August 31!
Kicking it Forward's 4th Annual Community Tournament
Our home field, PS 192 Jacob H Schiff, hosted our 4th annual alumni tournament on June 20th! Thanks to the hard work of our Youth Council, over 150 high school students joined us that Saturday to compete for the title of KIF Tournament Champions. After some fierce competition, the Yellow team proved to be our reigning champions and took home the trophy!
New York Red Bulls Join #summerSCORES
For the third consecutive year, the New York Red Bulls took over summer programming to impart their soccer wisdom onto our poet-athletes. Throughout the week, the NYRB crew ran drills, scrimmages, and encouraged our poet-athletes, who ended the week with an exciting New York Red Bulls v Columbus Crew SC game!
Nike's Go Play Day Poet-Athletes
On the first Friday of #summerSCORES, our summer program took a field trip to Flushing Meadow Park's new turf fields for Nike's Go Play Day. Players participated in skill exercises and friendly games. Along with hearing from former professional athletes and top Nike executives, they all got to take home a Nike soccer ball as a memory of the day!
Our #summerSCORES celebration: Family Day!
We ended our summer of soccer with our annual Family Day, bringing together the family, friends, and community members of our poet-athletes for a Friday of fun and sun! After some water games, competitive scrimmages, inspiring poetry, and an awesome trophy ceremony, we sent our poet-athletes on their way with the memories of an exciting summer and the promises of another amazing #fallSCORES season ahead!
